Nets, Nest
On a late evening walk down Fiumicino pier outside of Rome, I had to divert my vision from the pitching fishing boats, lest my vertigo get the better of me. To my good fortune the sidewalks were lined with piles and heaps of fishing nets illuminated by fluorescent streetlights. Photographing the nets, just for fun, turned into a year’s worth of painting material. I was attracted to the tangled layers of woven cord and to the way in which these forms relate to my nest paintings. Interesting how the two words are almost the same.
